Downslope is a geological break to limestone with richer flora. All hemlock in vicinity is dead. Large tulip poplar scattered in stand.;Near high point of knobby ridgeline with sandstone boulder piles. Flora is depauperate in comparision to MONF.395, reflecting acidic geology. Forest of very large chestnut oak with red maple, black gum, (and basswood) in subcanopy. Small moosewood sprouts. Fire scars on down wood.
Representativeness
Old growth on rocky, sterile ridgetop. Larger trees continue downhill to last plot and beyond. This is sterile version.
